The Chosunilbo takes the initiative in making social contributions. By carrying out a number of social campaigns for the greater good, we have been spreading the light of hope in every corner of our society. We have also been contributing to a brighter future through awards as well as leading educational, cultural, and sports projects.
Campaigns for Encouraging Cross-Class and Cross-Generational Interactions
By featuring the well-timed news series “The Disappearing Social Ladder” and “The Capitalism 4.0,” we have evoked sympathy and raised awareness among the government, enterprises, and the people. The former gives insight into the social situation where we no longer find hope as we are unable to climb the social ladder. The latter reveals the dark side of our society and provides solutions to urgent problems.
Campaigns for Sharing Love and Driving Donations
Instead of simply publishing articles on our neighbors in need, we have been building a culture of sharing and finding practical ways to help others by carrying out various campaigns such as “Our Neighbors,” “Let’s Share Our Talent,” and “The Donation Forum.” We aim to go beyond racial, ethnic, and national boundaries as we are willing to help whomever in need—North Korean defectors, ethnic minorities in Asia, and people living in remote areas of Africa.
Educational Campaigns
We have been contributing to the educational development in Korea by carrying out a number of beneficial projects: “The School Upgrade,” which improves the study environment in public education; and “The Teachers Are Our Hope,” which encourages teachers to receive reeducation. Also, by using the newspaper as an important learning tool— commonly known as “NIE (Newspaper in Education)”— we try to promote media literacy among students.
Cultural Campaigns
The cultural campaigns such as “The Turning a Living Room Into a Study” and “A House with Paintings” intend to promote family interactions and cultivate artistic sensibilities through books and paintings. Meanwhile, “The Humanities on the Road” and “The Concert in Our Neighborhood” help people find inner peace and balance in their lives.
Environmental Campaigns
We have been taking the initiative in preserving and restoring the environment for future generations by carrying out the campaigns such as “Reduce Waste,” “Revive Our Rivers,” and “Downsize Package.” Our conservation activities were internationally recognized, and have even received the Global 500 Award from the United Nations.
Health Campaigns
We have been featuring a news series called “Pit-a-Patting Brain Exercises,” which focuses on a dementia prevention program codeveloped by the National Institute of Dementia and The Chosunilbo. In addition, we have been offering various lectures widely praised by a number of relevant organizations, including local community health centers and institutes for dementia.
